wanna see the doc? wait a month.

i hear abt the shitty health care here all the time. it's everywhere, on the news, in the papers, on the web, from cabbies to even pple you meet in the waiting room at the hospital. i get it, health care here kinda sucks. but i've always shrugged it off and the recent experience at the hospital with the boy seems to be pretty ok. he was very well taken care of actually! 

but today i tried to make an appt to see our doctor. and i've heard tt u need to wait a couple of days to see the doc, if you're lucky, maybe 2-3 days, if not, it can go up to 6 days. so i was prepared to wait till after the weekend. but when the lady said "how abt the 29th...of march?" 

MARCH? feb hasnt even ended yet and my appt is at the end of march? seriously? 

she didnt even ask if it was serious or urgent. all she said was tt my doctor is booked up till then. well, thanks to the boy, he handpicked our doctor, who is the head of cardio at the hospital. i can understand how n why he's booked up but i have to wait for a month? 

thankfully, i have the doc's number n he remembers the chinese male who came in with one bad lung and a very blank-faced female. so he pushed me up till next monday. that's more like it! having said that, i like my doctor very much. i just dun like the system. 

the veggie wagon

i have to jump back on the veggie wagon. fell off it for a while now and i'm feeling the effects of not eating my greens. i also fell off the vitamin wagon. am getting back on that too. 

2010 shall be a healthy year for me, no more smokes, significant cut backs on alcohol, regular exercising, more veggies and fruits and more fish for meat. am working on the last one....hur hur hur! 

good news for the boy, the doc has cleared tt he's good as brand new and doesnt need further treatment! good to hear cos we're moving soon and i'm sure as hell wouldnt wanna move while the boy is off heavy-duty lifting. lol! 

bad news, the home laptop has crashed on me. it doesnt even start. thanks to the boy knocking a drink all over it.

wanna see snow?

this winter has been rather good to us, it's not as bad as last year. even when there were snow storms, boston kinda just missed out on it. some other states are accumulating 20 over inches of snow, we've just been seeing less than 5 inches. and we only have 4 weeks of winter to go!

but today, the snow storm hit us pretty hard. not as bad as NYC or Washington in the past couple of weeks but enough for us to shut down schools and churches. have a look from my kitchen window.

Our first CNY away from home

there are so many things i miss about CNY that I don't even think I can rem to list them all...let's see, ba kwa, pineapple tarts, cuttlefish, loh hei, ang pow, hot red dress with brand new heels, my family....etc etc etc.

so much so that i almost forgot about reunion dinner on CNY's eve. we didnt plan to cook at home and neither did we plan to have any special dinner until we were out. it was too late to hit any of the restaurants at chinatown by then so we had our reunion dinner at a bar! with NBA all stars' game on the telly somemore. totally worth it though. the food at Jacob Wirth was super duper yummy. i collapsed back at home cos i overate. :o(

and on CNY day, it was also v-day and it was also our 1 year mark in boston. time flies....!

so we celebrated with brunch at the same place we had our very first meal in boston on our very first day here. it's Joe's American Bar and Grill! and oddly enuf, they sat us at the exact same table a year ago! if only there was 4D, i would have gone to buy some numbers. LOL.

we found our new nest!!!

today, we signed the lease of our new home for the next 16 mths. it was a toss up between this place and another. i was secretly hoping the boy will pick this one becos my heart was sold the moment we saw it, but it was him who was undecided. thankfully, after seeing it again for the 2nd time, the boy and i got on the same page.

the place is very charming and the entire building holds only 30 units. yeah to lil neighbours! and the location? right smack in the financial district, this means we have cafes, restaurants and even a wine shop just below. the best part would be the 10 min walk to work, double yeah to sleeping in!

i love the kitchen...huge! comes with a marble top island and a huge ass kitchenaid fridge (which u cant see in this photo)

Right next to the living area...love the brick walls and exposed beams.

the living area extends to this below...that comes with partitions, so it can actually be a 2nd bedroom for guests or a study area. if not, we can leave the partition open and extend the living area.

and the bedroom...with one bathroom here and there's another bathroom in the loft! 2 bathrooms! yeah us!

love it! it looks completely different from our current apartment. it's more lofty and it's huge for us, 1000+ sq feet, plenty of space for the furniture to breathe. and we're moving in 3 weeks! cant wait!

pinata...pretty pretty please!

the boy and i dont believe in v-day. actually, to be more specific, we dun believe in allowing hallmark, florists, restaurants and gift shops to cheat us of our money from their mark-ups for v-day. n we certainly do not believe in being extra lovey-dovey on this day, it should be everyday!

and since this yr's v-day falls on CNY, we have decided to pig out for CNY at a super cheena pok restaurant filled with fellow cheena pple.

however, there's one v-day thingy tt i want. a pinata. it's basically a paper marche that you can stuff candy and chocolate. you then hang in high, and whack it with a baseball bat or whatever u fierce thing u have on hand. the pinata will explode with candy and chocolate! it's more of a b-day party tradition in the states but some do it for v-day too.

i want one! i wanna whack one hard and then stuff my face with all the chocolate!

smoking nightmares!

after the boy's health scare, he has decided to give up the ciggie vice once and for all. also becos the ultimatum presented was scary so he kinda doesnt have a choice. besides, it's about time and he's only 31, it's not too late to lead a smoke free life!

and some will ask what about me? i quit smoking before, for almost a year. and a trip to paris ruined that for me. and 6 mths ago, after discovering a much healthier lifestyle and leading a work/stress-free life here, i stopped smoking again. but once in a blue moon, after a couple of drinks, i still reach for a few puffs. so now, i am determined to quit. what better way to quit than to quit with a partner! talk about SUPPORT!

however, we keep having smoking nightmares! the boy keeps dreaming of himself smoking and wakes up in a panic wondering has he gone back to his old habit. and i dreamt that we fought becos he started to smoke again and i got mad at him. ha! 2 crazy pple.

i hope with the possibility of me returning to the work force soon will not drive the itch to smoke again. I CANNOT CANNOT CANNOT! *chants*

free money!

after a long trying week, something made us smile on sunday. we went to the ATM to withdraw some cash, and it spat out 40 bucks more! i think it got stuck from the previous transaction cos one of the 20 dollar note was chopped of at the top but we got it exchanged so lucky us! 40 bucks free! the boy gave it to me and i bought myself a nice top from H&M with 6 dollars left for 2 cups of coffee. hur hur hur!
